Cal Kingsmill Sr. is a Vietnam War veteran and lifelong waterfowl enthusiast. An avid hunter his entire life, Cal started hunting over Joefreau and LaFrance decoys and still hunts over wooden decoys of his own creation. He also collects decoys from around Louisiana.
Cal began carving in the early seventies and continues a long standing line, producing birds in the old New Orleans style. Largely self taught, his thirty-five years as a decoy artist have earned him a place among the artists who inspired him like Charles Joefreau and Mitchell LaFrance, Harold Carver and Rudolph Hutchinson.
Kingsmill decoys are truly traditional pieces, never hollowed or keeled, and carved from cypress root or tupelo gum. Cal uses Ronan oils for his colors.
Cal has been a participant in the Cajun Heritage festival for over twenty years and is a Sponsor for Ducks Unlimited.
